CityNorth is an upscale mixed-use project in the heart of Desert Ridge; a 5000-acre master planned residential community. Centrally located on 144 acres, CityNorth offers high-end shopping, luxury housing and exclusive office space on a network of pedestrian oriented streets and public spaces. Design Workshop created the landscape architectural concepts for the project including the landscape perimeters, streetscapes, paseos, courtyards and the signature grand central space called the Boulevard. The overall concept for the project is to create a sophisticated urban place which provides a range of public and private realms incorporating distinctive areas based on the world’s greatest cities. Specifically, the concept is realized through streets that provide multiple scales and characters as well as interesting public spaces which provide places for social interaction, cultural exchange and communal entertainment. Finally, the concept addresses the issue of human comfort in this arid desert environment by offering a system of trees, architectural canopies, and cooling devices that will help to mitigate the scorching summer temperatures and create a place that people want to shop, live and work in year-round.
