Residences at The Little Nell
Aspen, Colorado
The Residences at Little Nell is Aspen's newest and most
exclusive fractional ownership property. Comprised of
24 fractional ownership units, eight hotel units, eight
affordable housing units and 35,000 square feet of retail
space, the Residences were designed to replace a downtown
block of older, nondescript commercial and residential
structures that were built during Aspen's emergence as
a destination mountain resort. As an infill project at
the base of the world-famous Aspen Mountain, the Residences
needed to convey the elegance appropriate to a world-class
resort, while still paying homage to the mining history
of the site.
Design Workshop was commissioned as the lead design
landscape architect and landscape architect of record
for the site, providing landscape architectural services
for the entire site program. Highlights of the site program
include a new retail pedestrian promenade, a new après
ski deck and outdoor restaurant terrace, an extension
of the Silver Queen Gondola Plaza, an outdoor courtyard
and fire pit, private ski-in/ski-out terraces, extensive
gardens, a rooftop pool sundeck and a relocated Little
Nell ski lift. Due to the building program, nearly 75%
of the landscape architectural improvements are over structure,
making it one of the most complex in the Aspen area. The
rooftop pool sundeck consists of a large sunbathing and
gathering area, an outdoor fire pit, two spas, seating
garden, swimming pool and a water garden with a 180-degree
view of Aspen Mountain, Shadow Mountain, Downtown Aspen,
Red Mountain, Hunter Creek Valley, Smuggler Mountain and
the Roaring Fork Valley beyond.
The Residences at The Little Nell has been featured
in Mountain Homestyle Magazine.
